I grew up as the youngest child in an extended family and I loved hanging out with my father and brothers in the garage/workshop tinkering with old cars and motors.  The first time I saw wheel to wheel racing on television, I was hooked.  I wanted to do that.

To me auto racing is a civilized sport which pits crew and driver against a clock.  There is certainly intense competition on the track, but there’s also intense desire to avoid contact and “run your own race”.  No senseless violence or rampant un-sportsman-like behavior.
